We all have a favourite meal - that one dish that feels like a warm, comforting hug whenever we eat it.

A dog’s taste buds

To properly answer this question, we first need to take a look at how your dog tastes food. No matter how food orientated they are, they actually only have around 1700 taste buds compared to humans who have on average 9000 taste buds. 

This means that they’re generally less interested in a variety of flavours, because they’re less able to distinguish between them. 

Whether you feed your dog on wet food, or a kibble such as the current McDug range, the most important elements of their diet is covered: protein content and healthy carbohydrates as well as minerals, vitamins and nutrients. 

So while your dog might prefer fish-based or beef-based recipes, once you’ve found something they like, as long as the recipe is meeting their dietary requirements, there’s absolutely no need to change. 

When might you want to rotate their food? 

While you don’t have to change your dog's food if you don’t want to, you might choose to for other health reasons.
