Nourish
Nourish Grain Free Dog Food – Proper Food for Proper Dugs
Nourish is McDug's range of complete grain-free dog food, created for dugs who deserve great ingredients, plenty of quality meat or fish and a bowl they genuinely look forward to.
Our Nourish recipes use carefully selected animal protein sources alongside ingredients such as sweet potato, providing complete everyday nutrition without using grains.
With recipes for puppies, adult dogs, senior dogs and different breed sizes, Nourish makes it easier to find a grain-free food that suits the dug in front of you.
What makes McDug Nourish different?
We wanted Nourish to be straightforward: good ingredients, quality animal protein and complete nutrition without unnecessary fuss.
Across the range you'll find recipes featuring carefully selected meat and fish, including options such as salmon, trout, turkey, chicken, duck, lamb, beef, pork and more.
Depending on the recipe, Nourish typically contains around 50% meat or fish ingredients, combining freshly prepared animal protein with other carefully selected ingredients to create tasty, nutritious kibble.
Different recipes have different formulations, so always check the individual product page for the exact ingredients and nutritional analysis.
Grain free, but that's only part of the story
Nourish is grain free, but we don't believe those two words automatically make a dog food better.
What matters most is whether your dug is getting complete, balanced nutrition from a recipe that suits them.
Instead of grains, Nourish recipes use alternative carbohydrate sources such as sweet potato or potato, depending on the individual recipe.
For some owners, choosing grain free is simply their preference. For others, it's about finding a recipe their particular dug enjoys and gets on well with.
Our approach is simple: feed the dog in front of you.
Freshly prepared meat and fish
One of the things we're particularly proud of in Nourish is the use of freshly prepared meat or fish within the recipes.
Quality animal ingredients provide protein and important nutrients as part of a complete diet, while also helping create food that smells and tastes pretty appealing to the four-legged member of the family.
And let's face it — they're usually the harshest food critic in the house.
Gently cooked with Freshtrusion®
Nourish recipes use Freshtrusion® cooking technology, allowing freshly prepared meat and fish ingredients to be incorporated into the kibble.
The ingredients are gently cooked to create a nutritious, highly palatable dry food while helping retain the quality of the ingredients used.
For us, it's part of making a better bowl: start with good ingredients, treat them carefully and let the dug decide the rest.
Why sweet potato?
You'll see sweet potato in many Nourish recipes.
Although Nourish contains no grains, grain free doesn't mean carbohydrate free. Dogs can obtain energy from several different nutritional sources.
Sweet potato provides a useful carbohydrate source alongside fibre and naturally occurring nutrients, making it a good fit within many of our Nourish recipes.
Which Nourish recipe should I choose?
That's where the fun starts.
Rather than believing there's one perfect recipe for every dog, we've built Nourish around choice.
Think about your dug's:
- Age and life stage
- Breed size
- Activity level
- Body condition
- Digestion
- Favourite protein sources
- Individual likes and dislikes
Then find the recipe that fits.
Nourish for puppies
Growing puppies have different nutritional requirements from adult dogs.
Our Nourish puppy recipes provide complete grain-free nutrition formulated for growth, with options designed to suit different puppies and breed sizes.
Choose according to your puppy's expected adult size as well as their current age and weight.
Nourish for adult dogs
For adult dugs, Nourish offers a broad choice of meat and fish recipes.
That means you can choose according to your dog's tastes, size, activity and how they get on with different ingredients rather than being limited to one or two flavours.
If your dug turns their nose up at one protein, there's plenty more territory to explore.
Nourish for senior dogs
As dogs get older, activity, body condition, digestion and mobility can change.
Our senior Nourish options provide complete grain-free nutrition designed with older dogs in mind.
Age is only part of the picture, though. Always choose according to the condition and lifestyle of the individual dug rather than simply the number of candles on their birthday cake.
Small and large breed options
A little dug and a great big dug don't necessarily need exactly the same thing from their bowl.
Our wider Nourish range includes recipes suitable for different breed sizes and life stages, helping you choose food that's appropriate for your dog's individual needs.
Is grain-free dog food better?
Not automatically.
A grain-free recipe isn't inherently better simply because grain has been removed. Equally, there's no reason to dismiss a well-formulated grain-free food simply because it doesn't contain grain.
The important thing is choosing a complete food with an appropriate nutritional balance that suits your individual dog.
Nourish is there for owners who prefer to feed grain free while still wanting quality ingredients, plenty of choice and complete everyday nutrition.
Does grain free mean carbohydrate free?
No.
Grain-free foods can still contain carbohydrates from other ingredients.
Nourish recipes use ingredients such as sweet potato and potato as alternative carbohydrate sources, depending on the recipe.
Grain free means exactly that: the recipe doesn't contain grains. It doesn't mean zero carbohydrate.
What is the difference between Nourish and Nourish Plus?
This is an important one.
Nourish is our core grain-free range, with a wide choice of recipes typically containing around 50% meat or fish ingredients, depending on the individual recipe.
Nourish Plus takes things another step, with recipes containing 65% of the named animal protein source, alongside carefully selected superfood vegetables and plant ingredients chosen for their nutritional benefits.
Both provide complete nutrition.
Think of Nourish as our excellent everyday grain-free range and Nourish Plus as the premium step up when you want an even higher proportion of animal ingredients and the added benefits of those carefully selected superfood ingredients.
How do I change my dog onto Nourish?
Gradually.
Even when you're moving onto fantastic food, your dug's digestive system may appreciate a little time to catch up with your enthusiasm.
Introduce Nourish over several days, gradually increasing the new food while reducing the old.
Keep an eye on appetite, digestion, energy, body condition and — of course — the poo.
Those are often some of the best everyday indicators of how your dug is getting on.
How much Nourish should I feed?
Start with the feeding guide for the individual Nourish recipe.
The correct amount will depend on factors including your dog's weight, age, activity and body condition, so treat the guide as your starting point rather than an absolute number.
Monitor your dug and adjust where necessary.
And remember the extras. Treats, chews and those suspicious little pieces of cheese that somehow fall from the fridge all count.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Nourish a complete dog food?
Yes. Nourish recipes are formulated as complete foods for the life stage stated on the individual recipe, providing the nutrients required as part of your dog's daily diet.
Always choose the appropriate recipe for your dog's life stage and follow its feeding guide.
Does Nourish contain grain?
No. Nourish is McDug's grain-free range.
Individual recipes use alternative ingredients such as sweet potato or potato, so check the product page if you're looking for a particular formulation.
Is Nourish suitable for dogs with sensitive digestion?
Every dog is different.
Some owners choose grain-free recipes when looking for an alternative diet, but digestive sensitivity can have many causes and removing grain isn't automatically the answer.
Look at the complete ingredient list and how your individual dog responds. For dugs requiring more targeted digestive nutritional support, explore our Health & Wellness range.
Persistent digestive problems should always be discussed with your vet.
Can puppies eat Nourish?
Yes — but choose one of the Nourish recipes specifically formulated for puppies and growth.
Puppies have different nutritional requirements from adult dogs, so don't simply feed an adult recipe to a growing pup.
Can senior dogs eat Nourish?
Absolutely. We have Nourish options designed for senior dogs.
Choose according to your dog's age, activity, body condition and individual nutritional needs.
Should I rotate between different Nourish flavours?
You don't have to.
If your dug is thriving on a particular complete recipe, there's nothing wrong with consistency.
But Nourish gives you a broad choice of animal protein sources if you'd like to find a different recipe that suits your dog.
Any change should still be introduced gradually.
