Simply Good Dog Food – Good Nutrition Without the Fuss

Good dog food doesn't need to be complicated.

McDug Simply Good is our range of complete, hypoallergenic dog food made for owners who want quality everyday nutrition at a sensible price.

Straightforward recipes. Carefully selected ingredients. No unnecessary fuss.

Whether you've got a puppy finding their paws, an adult dug who'll eat you out of house and home, a smaller breed, a larger breed or an older dog taking life at a slightly more dignified pace, there's a Simply Good recipe to suit.

Why is it called Simply Good?

Because that's exactly what we wanted it to be.

Simply Good gives McDug customers a more affordable route into quality complete dog food without filling the recipe with ingredients simply because they sound impressive on the front of a bag.

The range combines carefully selected animal protein sources with easily digestible carbohydrates such as rice or potato, depending on the recipe.

The result is straightforward everyday nutrition designed to provide your dug with what they need — and leave out plenty of things they don't.

Hypoallergenic dog food without the hype

You'll see the word hypoallergenic used a lot in dog food.

In Simply Good, it means the recipes are formulated without several ingredients commonly associated with food sensitivities.

That can make Simply Good an excellent everyday option for owners looking for a gentle, straightforward diet for a dog with a sensitive tummy or dietary sensitivities.

But hypoallergenic doesn't mean it's impossible for an individual dog to react to an ingredient.

Every dug is different.

If your dog has persistent digestive problems, itching, recurring ear problems or other symptoms that make you suspect a genuine food allergy, speak to your vet rather than repeatedly changing foods.

For dogs requiring more targeted nutritional support, have a look at our McDug Health & Wellness range.

Rice or potato – what's the difference?

Simply Good includes both rice-based and potato-based recipes.

Rice is a well-established, highly digestible carbohydrate source and works extremely well in complete dog food.

Potato provides an alternative carbohydrate source and is used in several of our recipes, including our popular salmon and duck options.

Neither is automatically “better”.

As we say rather a lot at McDug:

Feed the dug in front of you.

The best recipe is the one that provides complete nutrition and genuinely suits your dog.

Quality animal protein

Protein matters.

Simply Good recipes use clearly identified animal protein sources including options such as:

  • Chicken
  • Lamb
  • Turkey
  • Duck
  • Salmon
  • Fish

That gives owners plenty of choice if their dug prefers a particular flavour or gets on better with one protein source than another.

Simply Good for adult dogs

For most adult dugs, good nutrition is about maintaining the basics really well:

A healthy body condition, good digestion, plenty of energy for walks and adventures, and a food they'll happily eat every day.

Our Simply Good adult recipes provide complete everyday nutrition with a choice of protein and carbohydrate combinations.

Options include favourites such as Chicken & Rice, Lamb & Rice, Turkey & Rice, Duck & Potato and Salmon & Potato.

Simply Good Puppy Food

Growing dugs have different nutritional requirements from adult dogs.

Our Simply Good puppy recipes are formulated to provide complete nutrition during this important period of growth and development.

There are options for puppies as well as recipes designed with larger growing dogs in mind.

Because those tiny paws don't stay tiny for very long.

Simply Good for senior and lighter dogs

As dogs get older, their nutritional requirements and activity levels can change.

Some need fewer calories than they did in their younger years while still requiring quality protein and complete nutrition.

Our Simply Good Rich in Fish with Rice Senior / Light recipe provides another option for older dogs or adults where maintaining a healthy body condition is becoming more important.

Simply Good for small breeds

Small dugs still have big nutritional requirements.

Our small-breed Simply Good recipes provide complete nutrition in an option suited to smaller dogs, with choices including Chicken & Rice and Salmon & Potato.

Simply Good for large breeds

Larger dugs have their own nutritional considerations, particularly during growth.

Simply Good includes recipes specifically designed for large-breed puppies and adult dogs, giving owners another straightforward way to choose food appropriate to their dog's life stage and size.

Simply Good Working Dog Food

The Simply Good range also includes selected 13.5kg Working Dog recipes for eligible working dogs.

These provide the same straightforward McDug approach in larger working-dog formats, with recipes including Duck & Potato, Lamb & Rice and Salmon & Trout with Potato.

Always choose food according to your dog's actual nutritional requirements, activity and workload rather than simply the size of the bag.

Simply Good or Nourish – which should I choose?

Both provide quality complete nutrition, but they're deliberately different ranges.

Simply Good is about straightforward, dependable nutrition and excellent everyday value, with rice- and potato-based recipes and plenty of choice across life stages.

Nourish is our grain-free range, using sweet potato and typically a higher proportion of meat or fish depending on the recipe.

And for owners looking for our premium 65% named animal protein source recipes with superfood ingredients, there's Nourish Plus.

There isn't one range that's automatically right for every dog.

Your dug doesn't read the label.

What matters is finding the recipe that suits their digestion, activity, life stage, preferences — and your budget.

Does my dog need grain-free food?

Not necessarily.

Despite what you might sometimes read online, grains aren't automatically a problem for dogs.

Rice can be a useful and highly digestible carbohydrate source and is used successfully in many quality dog foods.

If your dog thrives on a rice-based Simply Good recipe, there is no reason to change to grain-free simply because it sounds more premium.

If you prefer a grain-free recipe, explore our Nourish and Nourish Plus ranges.

How much Simply Good should I feed?

Use the feeding guide for the individual recipe as your starting point.

Then look at the dug.

Age, breed, size, activity, neutering and individual metabolism can all influence how much food a dog actually needs.

The best measure isn't whether the bowl is empty.

It's your dog's body condition over time.

If they're starting to carry a little too much timber, adjust the amount rather than waiting for the waistband on their imaginary trousers to get tight.

How should I change to Simply Good?

Introduce any new food gradually unless your vet has advised otherwise.

Over several days, progressively increase the amount of Simply Good while reducing the previous food.

A gradual transition gives your dog's digestive system time to adapt and makes it easier to see how they're getting on with their new recipe.

And yes — keep an eye on the poo.

It's one of the most useful bits of feedback your dug gives you.
