Nourish Plus

Nourish Plus – 65% Animal Protein Source with Superfood Ingredients

Some dugs deserve a little extra in their bowl. Actually, we think they all do.

Nourish Plus is McDug's premium grain-free range, combining 65% of the named animal protein source with carefully selected superfood vegetables and plant ingredients chosen for their nutritional benefits.

With recipes featuring Scottish salmon, British free-range chicken, turkey and Angus beef, Nourish Plus brings together quality animal ingredients, thoughtful nutrition and plenty of flavour.

Complete nutrition. Great ingredients. And a bowl worth getting excited about.

What makes Nourish Plus different?

The big difference is what's inside.

Nourish Plus recipes contain 65% of the named animal protein source, including freshly prepared meat or fish, alongside a carefully selected combination of vegetables, fruits, herbs and botanicals.

Depending on the recipe, you'll find ingredients such as:

  • Carrot, green beans and cauliflower
  • Kale, artichoke and blueberry
  • Spinach, fennel and asparagus
  • Papaya, pumpkin and courgette
  • Parsley, ginger, dill and nettle

They're not there simply to make the ingredient list sound impressive. Each Nourish Plus recipe brings ingredients together as part of a complete and balanced food designed for the appropriate life stage.

What does 65% animal protein source actually mean?

This is worth explaining properly.

When we say Nourish Plus contains 65% of the named animal protein source, we're describing the proportion of animal ingredients used in the recipe.

It does not mean the finished kibble contains 65% analytical protein.

Those are two very different measurements.

The exact composition and nutritional analysis varies between recipes, so you'll find the full details on each individual product page.

Freshly prepared meat and fish

Nourish Plus uses quality animal ingredients, including freshly prepared meat or fish.

Freshly prepared ingredients help provide valuable protein and nutrients while also contributing to something our dugs care considerably more about — taste.

Because we can spend all day discussing nutritional science, but ultimately somebody furry still has to approve what's in the bowl.

Gently cooked with Freshtrusion®

Our freshly prepared meat and fish ingredients are gently cooked using Freshtrusion® technology.

This allows fresh animal ingredients to be incorporated into the kibble while being carefully cooked to help protect their nutritional quality.

For McDug, that fits our philosophy perfectly: start with quality ingredients and treat them with care.

Why the superfood ingredients?

The vegetables, fruits, herbs and botanicals used across Nourish Plus have been selected to complement each individual recipe.

Depending on which recipe you choose, that might include ingredients such as blueberry, pomegranate, kale, spinach, asparagus, pumpkin, papaya, ginger or fennel.

We prefer to think of them as good ingredients doing a useful job rather than magic ingredients making miracle claims.

They're part of what makes Nourish Plus a thoughtfully formulated complete food.

Grain-free with sweet potato

Nourish Plus is grain free, using ingredients such as sweet potato as an alternative carbohydrate source.

Sweet potato contributes carbohydrate, fibre and naturally occurring nutrients within the complete recipe.

But just as with Nourish, we don't claim a food is automatically better simply because it's grain free.

The important thing is the quality and balance of the complete recipe and whether it suits your individual dug.

Which Nourish Plus recipe should I choose?

There's no universal best flavour.

The right choice depends on your dog's life stage, breed size, activity, body condition, digestion and preferences.

And sometimes the dug has fairly strong opinions on the matter.

Nourish Plus for adult dogs

Our adult Nourish Plus range gives you a choice of quality animal protein sources including Angus beef, turkey, British free-range chicken and Scottish salmon.

That means you can choose according to the ingredients and flavours that best suit your dog while still getting the core Nourish Plus benefits.

Nourish Plus for puppies

Growing dugs need food formulated specifically for growth.

Our Nourish Plus puppy recipes provide complete puppy nutrition with the high proportion of animal ingredients that defines the range.

Choose a recipe specifically formulated for puppies and follow its individual feeding guide as your pup grows.

Nourish Plus for senior dogs

Older dugs still deserve great ingredients.

Our Nourish Plus senior option provides complete nutrition formulated with senior dogs in mind, while retaining the quality animal ingredients and superfood approach of the range.

As always, choose according to your dog's body condition, activity and individual needs rather than their age alone.

Nourish Plus for small dogs

Little dugs can have very big personalities — and occasionally very particular tastes.

Nourish Plus includes options specifically for small-breed adult dogs, giving smaller members of the clan access to the same premium approach.

Nourish or Nourish Plus – what's the difference?

Both are McDug grain-free ranges providing complete nutrition.

Nourish is our core grain-free range, offering a particularly broad choice of recipes and typically around 50% meat or fish ingredients depending on the recipe.

Nourish Plus is the premium step up, with 65% of the named animal protein source together with carefully selected superfood vegetables and plant ingredients.

You don't need to feed Nourish Plus simply because it's the more premium range.

Choose according to your dog, your preferences and your budget.

A dug thriving on Nourish is already eating a quality complete food. Nourish Plus simply gives you the option to take the ingredient specification another step.

Is higher meat content always better?

Not automatically.

A percentage on the front of a bag doesn't tell you everything about the nutritional quality of a dog food.

Ingredient quality, digestibility, nutritional balance, life-stage suitability and how well the individual dog does on the food all matter.

That's why we talk about what's actually in Nourish Plus rather than claiming the biggest number automatically wins.

How do I change my dog onto Nourish Plus?

Make the change gradually.

Introduce Nourish Plus over several days, increasing the proportion of the new food while reducing your dog's previous food.

Watch their appetite, digestion, energy and body condition while they adjust.

And yes, check the poo. Your dug might find your interest slightly intrusive, but it's useful information.

How much Nourish Plus should I feed?

Start with the feeding guide for your chosen recipe.

Your dog's appropriate daily amount will depend on factors including their weight, age, activity and body condition.

Use the guide as a starting point, monitor the dug in front of you and adjust when necessary.

Don't forget to account for treats, chews and extras when considering their overall daily intake.
