McDug Nutrition Switches to Recyclable Dog Food Packaging — Same Great Recipe, Greener Bag

McDug Nutrition new recyclable Nourish Plus Turkey bag — Coming Soon, new recyclable bags, sustainable packaging, premium performance, Scottish loch backdrop

At McDug Nutrition, we've always believed that what goes into your dog's bowl matters. But increasingly, so does what happens to the bag it came in. That's why we're proud to announce that our Nourish and Nourish Plus grain-free dog food ranges are moving to new recyclable packaging — a change that's better for the planet without compromising a single thing your dug loves about their food.

Why We're Making the Change

This decision didn't happen overnight. Our previous bags, much as we loved them, had their share of issues — and our customers told us. Oil staining through the bag, faulty seals causing freshness concerns, and white marks appearing when bags got wet. These weren't acceptable to us, and we didn't want to just put up with them.

There were bigger pressures building behind the scenes too. There are only two paper mills in the whole of Europe that produce our existing style of bags — a fragile supply chain we couldn't rely on long term. Add new EU and PFAS packaging regulations into the mix, and the case for change became clear.

So we did something we always try to do: we asked you. Through surveys earlier this year, the same requests kept coming back from our customers:

  • A resealable zip closure — to keep food fresh between scoops
  • A product window — so you can see what's inside
  • Better sealing — no more worrying about leaks or freshness
  • A stronger, higher-quality overall pack — one that feels as premium as what's inside
  • A recyclable bag — the current brown bags are compostable, not recyclable. There's an important difference.

Our new bags tick every single one of those boxes.

What's Changing?

Our beloved brown bag is getting a proper upgrade. The new Nourish and Nourish Plus packaging is fully recyclable, reducing our environmental footprint while keeping your dog's food as fresh and nutritious as ever. We'll be honest with you: recyclable plastic isn't a perfect solution, and we wouldn't pretend otherwise. But after extensive research, we believe this is the best balance we can find — a bag that's strong, fresh-keeping, high quality, and genuinely recyclable via soft plastic collection points.

The recipe? Identical. The quality? Unchanged. The commitment to premium, grain-free, UK-sourced ingredients? Absolutely the same.

Why Recyclable Dog Food Packaging Matters

The UK pet food industry generates significant packaging waste each year. As a Scottish dog food brand built on transparency and trust, we felt it was time to do our part. Switching to recyclable pet food bags is one of the most meaningful steps we can take as a growing brand — and it's one our Clan has been asking about.

One important note: being recyclable doesn't automatically mean it'll be collected at your kerb. Please check your local council's rules or your nearest household waste recycling centre to find out what soft plastics they accept. Many supermarkets also have soft plastic drop-off points. Not sure where to start? Recycle Now is a brilliant free resource run by WRAP that helps you find your nearest recycling point.

If you're looking for a sustainable dog food brand in the UK, this is part of our ongoing commitment to responsible, ethical pet nutrition.

Which Products Are Affected?

The new recyclable packaging is rolling out across our full Nourish range and Nourish Plus range — our premium grain-free recipes including:

  • Nourish Plus Free Range Turkey with Parsley, Papaya, Nettle, Zucchini & Pumpkin
  • Nourish Plus Scottish Salmon with Dill, Spinach, Fennel, Asparagus & Tomato
  • The full Nourish Small Breed range

Same Food, New Values — What to Expect

When your next order arrives, you may notice the bag looks a little different. Don't worry — you're still getting the same high-meat, grain-free dog food your dug knows and loves, just in packaging we can all feel a wee bit better about. Your dug probably won't notice a thing (apart from giving the new bag a good sniff of approval).

If you have any questions about the change, drop us a message — the Clan McDug team is always happy to chat.
